History

Helen Cornock became the proprietor of Ellwood Nursery in September 2003. Previously, Helen had been employed by the LEA as Nursery co-ordinator. With a change in legislation Helen was asked to privatise the nursery. With extensive decorating and outside work the nursery was re opened in September 2003.

The nursery has gone from strength to strength with the opening of an afterschool club in September 2004 and then the introduction in the same year of a holiday club. Children from school are able to attend these sessions.

In 2005 Helen opened her second nursery in the beautiful village of Parkend and children from both settings share facilities such as holiday club and parties.

Helen secured funding in 2009 to have improvements to the outside area which included an all weather canopy which has enabled the children to extend their play to outside in all weathers.

In 2010 the nursery and the school held their first joint adventure “Healthy Breakfasts”. This saw the families from both settings sitting down together to eat a free healthy breakfast. This has now become an annual event which has proved very successful.

Looking for a new challenge Helen organised the first Ellwood Garden Party and children families and friends from the school and the nursery were invited to attend. This has evolved and now all the children can take part in events to showcase both settings. This year “All Steps Dance Company “ put on a show that the nursery children were involved in. Next year’s plans are already taking shape.

2010 saw the launch of our “Moocups” outdoor toddler sessions which allow both parents and their toddlers to experience the log circle and enjoy a healthy snack with our nursery children. Moocups was launched after requests from parents who wanted somewhere for their pre nursery children to play and to prepare for the transition to nursery.
